Our GAK1 time series limits our hindcast ability to 1970, although we can construct less accurate models with only the FWD and Middleton Island wind time series. To be able to say something about FWC and transports before 1970, we have started looking at other long-term time series that measure or represent portions of the physical environment and its variability in the North Pacific. These time series include the NCEP reanalysis fields, various climate indices and EOF time series, and the Trenberth Northern Hemisphere Sea Level Pressure gridded data set, which extends back to 1899.
