The University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences is testing field equipment in Shishmaref and Wales that measures ocean surface currents.

Our measurements of ocean currents will never compare to the knowledge of coastal communities, but we hope that it can add to it in a way that will be beneficial to everyone, by helping with marine navigation, search and rescue operations, contaminant spill response, marine and sea ice forecasting, and scientific research.

If you have information about the currents you would like to share with us or have a question and and have email, please send us a message: uaf.hfr@gmail.com
