Bering Strait Surface Currents Project

Funded by AOOS

September 2020 - We are making progress toward getting field equipment up and running while under COVID-19 travel restrictions. Please stay tuned as we figure out how to move forward safely.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences is testing field equipment in Shishmaref and Wales that measures ocean surface currents.

Expanding our knowledge of ocean currents can help with marine navigation, search and rescue operations, contaminant spills, marine and sea ice forecasting, and scientific research.
