Hands-on experiences for K-12 educators

Through the ARMADA program at the University of Rhode Island funded by the National Science Foundation we have primary or high school teachers participate on Seward Line cruises. These teachers are not only active participants on the cruises, but communicate the experience to their students and provide web-based logs of the experience to the general K-12 community.

In 2008, we were joined by Karen Rudio a 7th and 8th grade science teacher at Calcutt Middle School in Central Falls, Rhode Island Read her logs.

In 2009, we were joined by Jennifer Duncan from Madeira Beach Fundamental Middle School, a marine theme school that is located on the diverse and plentiful, Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida Read her logs.

We hope to support such activities in future years, and welcome direct requests from Alaska-based teachers if they are interested in participation.
