John Kelley


Dr. Kelley has been conducting programs at the University of Alaska Fairbanks for the past 20 years focused on encouraging minority and especially Alaska Native students to pursue careers in science, math and engineering. His training is in the fields of geophysics and geochemistry applied to the ocean and atmosphere. He received his undergraduate training at the Pennsylvania State University and doctorate at the University of Nagoya, Japan. His research interests are in the fields of trace gases and contaminants and radioactivity. He has also served as Director of the Naval Arctic Research Laboratory and more recently Director of the National Science Foundation Polar Ice Coring Office. He is currently the principal investigator of the ORION program (Alaska Risk from Russian Nuclear Reactors) supported through the Battelle-Pacific Northwest National Laboratories..
